What is the NDAA Act?
The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act 2019 (NDAA) is a US federal law in effect since 2018.
Among its many provisions, Section 899 stands out as a key clause that explicitly prohibits the acquisition or use of certain telecommunications services, video surveillance equipment, and components manufactured by specific companies, within federal agencies and their contractors.
This section aims to strengthen national security and protect against potential cyber threats that could arise from the use of equipment or services linked to foreign entities that pose a risk to sensitive data.
In simple terms, this means that federal agencies may not use cameras manufactured by any of the blacklisted companies.
