Tower blocks door entry
A case study of a door entry system for a new Barratt Homes development in the north London borough of Islington, near Emirates Stadium, the home of Arsenal Football Club. Queensland Terrace has 375 new homes that includes studios and one, two and three-bedroom apartments, most with balcony or terrace and many with views towards Canary Wharf and the City. The developer sought a door entry system able to connect all 375 users from the three tower blocks to a centrally managed 24-hour concierge. The two-wire Simplebus product from the manufacturer Comelit Group UK was chosen by the specialist London-based electronic installation company, RJK Security.
Each tower has its own black Ikall digital video entrance panel, pictured, integrated proximity reader and audio/video unit with a dedicated call button for two-way communication with the central concierge. This range of modular entrance panels from Comelit is available in a choice of colours. It features a large colour LCD display, and a touch-sensitive keypad; and users can upload names via a USB port.
Internally, each apartment, including the concierge desk, has a flush-mounted black Planux Lux video monitor with 3.5-inch colour display and glass cover, offering residents touch-sensitive technology, full-duplex hands-free functions and melody customisation.
Chris Carroll, Comelit’s Business Development Manager, said: “Simplebus has been a flagship door entry system in the UK market for Comelit in recent years, it’s a very flexible true two-wire system that is ideal for new build and retro-fit projects. It is very popular amongst installers for this very reason; the price means they can offer market-leading technology at affordable rates. Even with the rise of IP technology, including Comelit’s very own VIP system, we believe strongly that the Simplebus audio and video door entry system range will continue to be a much sought after door entry solution for years to come.”
Using only two unpolarised wires, which carry both power and data, Simplebus can offer up to a 50 per cent reduction in installation times, the makers claim. At the same time, the system offers audio and video, for projects from small homes to large residential complexes. The user can include an unlimited number of main and secondary entrances so the system can be expanded to accommodate extra capacity if required.
